Those familiar questions again…
“Do you work?”
“What do you do?”
These questions trigger an awareness that
There are a lot of things that I haven’t done
That most women in my culture do these days
And most of the things I do, I don’t get paid for…
Some might say I’ve been constrained, restricted
Some might call me privileged
Some marvel at my ‘good deeds’
Some might simply call me old fashioned
But really,
I am just doing what I can do
And I am enjoying it
And if what I do brings you joy
If you benefit from my efforts too,
That creates connection
And I am thankful for that.
I am thankful for the gift of time
Time with my children
Time to rest and contemplate
Time to study and learn
Time to be creative
Time to journey with fellow lonely travellers
And the gift of being content with what I have
Call me good or bad, idealistic or old fashioned…
I’m trying not to care
I’m just doing what I can do
